We are heartbroken at the loss of our dear friend and volunteer Loretta Nelson. For more than 15 years, Loretta Nelson has been a loyal supporter of the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City. Her generosity, and more importantly, her kind spirit, have inspired us all. Loretta gave countless hours of her time baking her much sought-after cookies and custom tea towels for the silent auctions at our fundraising events. From competing in Sammy's International Meatball Festival to teaching our Club kids how to bake cookies from scratch, Loretta always found a way to make a difference. Her dedication inspired us to name an award in her honor for our Youth & Community Awards: The Loretta Nelson Service Award. This award pays homage to Loretta's use of her skills and interests to best serve the Club's mission to help kids in our community reach their full potential. Few people would continue volunteering their precious time at the incredible age of 99 years old. Loretta's gifts to our children will continue to have an impact for years to come. We are sending our deepest sympathies to her many loved ones and friends across our community and all over the country. Loretta will be deeply missed at our Club and we will always cherish her memory in our hearts.

This past Saturday, we were honored to receive a grant of $5,000 from the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation to support our Garden Club! At the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City, kids get to grow their own fruit & vegetables and later transform them into delicious, healthy meals with our culinary classes. We had an amazing time at our local Sprouts store 489 where the staff welcomed us to sample products and even learn about some cool vegetables like watermelon radishes and yellow dragonfruit! We are so grateful to The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation for their generous support and helping us continue to provide programming designed to get kids excited about growing food and eating for a healthy lifestyle. Together, let’s plant the seeds of a healthier future for our kids and community. #SproutingHealthyCommunitiesDay 🌱
